Small 5.1 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles SoCal |

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake that struck Southern California last night is now being called an aftershock to the 7.1 magnitude Hector Mine earthquake which struck back in October of 1999 according to scientists at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. The earthquake, which struck Friday night at about 8:18PM, caused minor damage to the small town of Ludlow, CA.
According to Caltech, the exact epicenter of the quake was 16 miles West-Northwest of Ludlow, CA, a small mojave desert town. Reports of shaking were felt upwards to Ventura, down to San Diego and all the way to Las Vegas.
The USGS originally reported theuake as a 5.5, but it was shortly downgraded to 5.1.
